Dear parents and students of FD,

Although it feels odd for me to welcome you to the new school year, being among the latest to get on board the administrative staff of FD, I consider it a pleasure and a privilege to put down a few words addressed to you all as we officially start a new school year.

The three of us Salesians come from an international congregation of priests and brothers, present, as of latest official count, in 133 countries and territories all over the world. Whilst our general headquarters is based in Rome, Italy, our congregation traces its origins to the outlying areas around Turin, Italy. Our congregation, whose mission is focused on the education of youth, was founded by St. John Bosco, more popularly known the world over as Don Bosco (Fr. Bosco in Italian), who died in 1888, canonized in 1934, and officially declared by the Church in 1988 as “Father and Teacher of Youth.”

Don Bosco chose St. Francis of Sales as Patron saint of the congregation and the religious family he founded. It is for this reason that we are known as Salesians. The Salesian Family, which principally consists of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), the FMA (Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, or Daughters of Mary Help of Christians), the Salesian Cooperators (a lay association equivalent to what is known as the “third order” of many religious orders), the Association of Past Pupils all over the world, along with 33 other religious congregations inspired by the Salesian spirituality and charism of St. John Bosco, now number easily more than 150,000 members the world over. We SDB’s alone number about 16,500 and the FMA’s total about 17,500 working for the advancement and promotion of the total, holistic good of hundreds of thousands of young people all over the shrinking globe.

We would like you to know we are most glad to be part of the glorious 60-year history of Father Duenas Memorial School. We would like to assure you that, to use the words of a poet, we mean “to spoil no whisper” and “blur no expression.” We have come to serve the best interests of the Church, the Archdiocese of Agana, and the school that you so love and esteem for good reason.

Please join us in this ongoing journey at FD. We may have been the latest to come on board, but definitely not the least excited and passionate about everything that you hold dear with regards to FD.

And yes … I wish you all the best for this school year, in all ways, all days, and for always!

Fr. Vitaliano “Chito” Dimaranan, SDB
Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Father Dueñas Memorial School!  Catholic belief and academics must be our main priority.  It is of the utmost importance that each student make it a personal goal to work to his potential and to achieve to the best of his ability during the upcoming school year.

It is important to understand that an orderly school environment is essential in our quest to provide each and every student with a quality education.  The values and regulations outlined in the student handbook have not been established to hinder student’s individual freedom, but to assist in direction of our school on a day-to-day basis.

It is important for you to understand that faculty members have absolute authority in the classroom and in all areas where students come under their charge, including extracurricular activities and athletic contests.  Students are obligated to follow all directions of faculty and staff members in a respectful and obedient manner.

A disciplined atmosphere is essential to the fulfillment of your personal goals.  I hope that this year will be your best ever at Father Dueñas Memorial School.

Sincerely,

Mr. Tony Thompson                                                                                                           FDMS Vice-Principal
