November 6, 2009

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Time is moving real fast and we are well on the way towards completing the second quarter. This is just to inform you of what’s in the offing in these exciting weeks prior to the onset of the second holiest season next to Easter – Christmas!

The Friars’ Football team can boast of a string of victories and are poised for the Championships. The soccer team has had two wins so far, even if several of them are off-island competing in China. The FDAA are busy firming up plans for a Basketball tournament that will be hosted at the Phoenix Center from November 21 to December 5, 2009.

On the home front, we are wrapping up today the cleaning up of what is now known as the FDL (FD Library Building), or the former Kamalen Karidat, in view of transforming it into a bigger library and four additional classrooms. A contingent from the Air Force will be coming today to do “mop up operations,” along with our ROTC and PE students. A team of parents and alumni are now busy scouting around for qualified professional help that can look into the structural soundness of the building. On this will be based the rest of what will soon be done to spruce up the building in time for next school year. Knowing that all this, along with the bigger project that is now taking shape in our minds, would entail a whole lot of financial backing up, the PAB decided last night to form a Finance Committee to begin planning for the challenges up ahead.

In the meantime, the traditional activities have already been firmed up and working committees set-up. First in the list is the “Christmas Concert,” aka “spaghetti dinner” slated for Sunday, December 6, 2009. I would like you all to block off that date in your calendar. It is a family-oriented activity that promises to be full of fun and holiday cheers.

The theatre production is slated for February 6, 7, & 8, 2010, while the Gala Dinner will most likely be sometime in the latter part of April 2010, right after the visit of the WASC team.

Lastly, please be informed that on November 25, eve of Thanksgiving, I have challenged the STUCO to lead the assembly in a Thanksgiving Prayer Service right before their traditional barbecue. To give way for some ongoing training needs of teachers, all students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM on that day.

Fortes in Fide!
